Guide
What is a tentative date sheet?
Short answer: a tentative date sheet is a provisional exam schedule. The board shares it early so schools and students can plan, but dates may still be changed before the final date sheet is issued.
Why boards release a tentative schedule
Boards have to fit hundreds of subjects around holidays, entrance exams and practicals. Publishing a draft early lets schools flag clashes – for example two papers that many students take on the same day – before everything is locked.
Tentative vs final date sheet
| Tentative | Final | |
|---|---|---|
| Can dates change? | Yes | Rarely – only for emergencies |
| Released | Months before exams | Weeks before exams |
| Use it for | Long-term planning | Exact revision schedule and travel |
How to plan with a tentative date sheet
- Plan your revision around it, but leave a few buffer days before each paper.
- Don’t book travel or other commitments until the final schedule is out.
- Check the official website again when the final version is announced – we update our pages the same day.
