Which exam is this?
The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is the computer-based entrance exam run by JAMB for admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. Candidates sit four subjects (Use of English plus three others) at accredited CBT centres. Direct Entry (DE) applicants register with JAMB but do not write the UTME. Why March? The harmonised 2027 exam calendar
On 14 October 2026 the Federal Ministry of Education met the heads of JAMB, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS in Abuja to line up the 2027 national exams so they do not clash and results are ready for September admissions. Its press statement proposed the UTME for 15 – 25 March 2027, NECO SSCE (internal) for 1 April – 14 May and WAEC WASSCE for 11 May – 18 June 2027 (Edugist, 15 October 2026). The Ministry called these proposed timelines, so the UTME window could still change when JAMB publishes its official schedule. If it holds, the UTME would come about a month earlier than in 2026.
2027 UTME first-session timing change
According to a JAMB statement issued on Monday 14 September 2026 by its spokesperson Dr Fabian Benjamin (reported by WithinNigeria, 16 September 2026), the board has moved the first daily session of the 2027 UTME one hour later. The change came out of JAMB’s 2026 management retreat and affects only the first session; later sessions keep their usual times.
| First session | Before (up to 2026) | 2027 UTME |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival at CBT centre | 6:30 am | 7:30 am |
| Exam starts | 7:30 am | 8:30 am |
| Exam ends | 9:30 am | 10:30 am |
